Blues and Food Market Spring Fling (END MAY 17)

The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society will host the Blues & Foods Market SPRING FLING on Saturday, May 17th, from 1-5pm, at 2521 Phillips Ave in Greensboro. Eco Bus Open House (END MAY 17)

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department will hold its Eco Bus Open House from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, May 17, at Lake Brandt, 5945 Lake Brandt Rd. The bus will be free and open to the public to showcase some of the City’s animal ambassadors, while visitors will also get a chance to see and touch native and non-native animals and learn facts about each species. Turning Awareness Into Action: A Mental Health Resource Fair (END MAY 17)

Guilford County will host Turning Awareness into Action: A Mental Health Resource Fair on Saturday, May 17, from 9am to noon, at 918 N. Main Street in High Point, and on Friday, May 30, from 1-5pm, at the Guilford County Behavioral Health Center, 931 Third St. in Greensboro. U.N.I.T.E. Greensboro Festival (END MAY 18)

Family Support Network of Central Carolina will host the U.N.I.T.E. (Understanding Inclusion Takes Everyone) Greensboro Festival from 1-4 pm on Sunday, May 18, at LeBauer Park. The U.N.I.T.E. Greensboro Festival is a celebration of community, inclusion, and the organizations working to support children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. Women’s Resource Center Women to Work series (Disc. MAY 22)

The Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro will hold their “Women to Work” series: Job Search Strategies for Success, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, Monday through Thursday, from May 12th through the 22nd, at 628 Summit Avenue. Blue Ridge Music Center Reopening (END MAY 24)

This month, the Blue Ridge Music Center is reopening to visitors for the season. Visitors can tour the award-winning Roots of American Music Museum and the traveling exhibit, I’ve Endured: Women in Old-Time Music. The Deep Roots, Many Voices: Summer Concert Series kicks off on May 24, with outdoor concerts hosted at 7 pm Saturdays through August in the amphitheater. Comment on the GSO Housing & Neighborhood Development Plans (END MAY 25)

Greensboro residents are encouraged to review and comment on three proposed Housing and Neighborhood Development plans now through Sunday, May 25. Copies of the Five-Year Consolidated Plan, the 2025-2026 Funding Chart, and the 2025 Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing can be acquired by calling 336-373-4636. GSO Bike Month (Disc. MAY 28)

All through May, the city of Greensboro will celebrate Bike Month with a wide range of free, public events, community meetups, and learn-to-ride clinics. Community Rides include Easy Riders, the Major Taylor Trek Ride, and the Cycle Club with Lawn Service. Special Events include an eBike Demo and Community Fair, the Ride of Silence, and the Tune In and Tune Up. Additionally observed will be National Bike to Work Week. Every third Thursday, Senior Resources of Guilford will host a free community event for Adult Children Of Aging Parents, at 1401 Benjamin Parkway in Greensboro. Hopper Trolley adds Greensboro Farmer’s Curb Market (Disc. MAY 30)

Greensboro Transit Agency has announced the Greensboro Farmer’s Curb Market as the Hopper Trolley’s newest, delicious destination. Every Wednesday from 8 am to 12 noon, the Hopper will follow its normal route serving downtown with a deviation to stops at the J. Returning September 12-14, the NC Folk Festival in downtown Greensboro is inviting young artists and performers from across North Carolina to take the stage—and the spotlight with a Youth Art Contest for students grade K-12 and a Youth Talent Show for ages 18 and under. MUSEP Concert Series (END AUG 24)

GuilfordWorks Assisting Those Impacted By Recent Layoffs

GuilfordWorks is prepared to support those individuals impacted by a recent layoff in the Community. The NCWorks Career Centers in Guilford and Forsyth counties can provide career and job placement services to those impacted by unemployment or underemployment. Medicaid/CHIP Renewal

People enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP should update their contact information and check the mail for a renewal form from their Medicaid agency over the next few months. It is important to complete the renewal form and return it immediately to avoid a loss of coverage, including parents who may be renewing coverage for their children. People who have lost Medicaid or CHIP should visit HealthCare.gov to see if they are eligible to enroll in a low-cost, quality health plan.

NCBA Senior Community Service Employment Program

Recognizing that income and productivity are key to maintaining the quality of life our seniors deserve, the National Caucus & Center on Black Aging proudly provides employment training and placement services under the Senior Community Service Employment Program.  In order to qualify, you must be 55 or older, unemployed, capable of performing part-time training duties, and have a family income that does not exceed 125% of the federal poverty income guidelines. Free Computer Classes at the Library

Free computer classes are back at the Greensboro Public Library. Classes at the Central Library are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Several branch locations offer classes as well. The Aggies at the Goal Line program has been helping former North Carolina A&T State University students of all ages complete their degrees. If you never finished your degree, and it’s been at least 2 years since you last attended A&T, contact Aggies at the Goal Line via AGL@ncat.edu. Take Me Home

The Greensboro Police Department will be participating in the “Take Me Home” program. “Take Me Home” is a free program that allows family members and legal guardians to upload critical information for individuals with a cognitive impairment or developmental disability in the event that a registered individual encounters law enforcement or is reported missing. Guilford County Schools

Guilford County School’s youth crisis hotline, 336-332-7295, is currently open to students dealing with anxiety, depression, abuse, suicidal thoughts, hunger, or any other form of crisis. For emergency, you should still call 911. Additionally, the GCS general information line, 336-332-7290, can be used Monday through Friday from 8 am – 7 pm.

TRIAD Goodwill Accepts Food Donations

A lot of people don’t know this, but Triad Goodwill accepts food donations and routes them to local food banks. Non-perishable food items are collected in all 23 Donation Centers located in Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Rockingham and Caswell counties. Styrofoam Recycling

While foam and Styrofoam aren’t recyclable in Greensboro’s recycling program, residents and businesses that want to recycle foam may now bring it to 1310 W. Gate City Blvd. Foam dropped off at this location will be made into picture frames and molding in New Jersey. Proceeds from the sale of foam will go back to support Tiny House Community Development’s efforts to reduce homelessness in the Triad. For more info, call 919-622-3303.

Glass Recycling

The City of Greensboro is no longer accepting glass, large plastic items, pots and pans, and shredded paper in its recycling program. Visit greensboro-nc.gov/recycle for locations you can recycle glass going forward.

Library Makerspace
